Monday, October 6th, The Sidney Bechet Society celebrates the life of its late founder, Eric Offner, at Peter Norton Symphony Space.

Trumpeter, Byron Stripling and clarinetist, Evan Christopher, two of Eric’s favorite musicians, will lead an intimate, soulful, down home tribute to the man whose passion for Sidney Bechet has resulted in 17 years of the finest traditional jazz concerts in NYC.

Please join us in a loving musical celebration of this inspirational figure on the New York jazz scene.

Byron Stripling is a veteran of the Lionel Hampton Band, Count Basie Orchestra, and Carnegie Hall Jazz Band. He is currently artistic director of The Columbus Jazz Orchestra, in Ohio.

Evan ChristpoherEvan Christopher is the chief practitioner of the New Orleans-Creole style of clarinet. A veteran of the Jim Cullum Jazz Band, he currently tours the world with his own band, Django a la Creole. “…in my estimation, not only the greatest jazz clarinetist alive, but one of the greatest of all time.” Ahmet Ertegun, Founder of Atlantic Records

Drummer Marion Felder is a graduate of Julliard and a veteran of The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. He recently toured with Michael Buble.

Bassist Kelly Friesen, a master of the slap bass style, is a veteran of Woody Allen’s New Orleans Jazz Band and is featured on both screen and soundtrack in the film, “Sweet and Lowdown”.

Pianist Bobby Floyd has been a member of Ray Charles’ band, and currently tours with New Orleans’ legend, Dr. John.

Downbeat Magazine Rising Star Bria Skonberg on trumpet joined by Sidney Bechet specialist Evan Arntzen on clarinet, Host of NPR’s Piano Jazz Jon Weber on piano, Woody Allen Jazz Band bassist Debbie Kennedy, Jazz at Lincoln Center trombonist Vincent Gardner, and JaLC drummer Alvin Atkinson, Jr.

Mat Domber, founder & President of jazz label Arbors Records, left us in 2012, leaving a legacy of over 300 CD releases of classic jazz. He was a true keeper of the flame for traditional jazz.

Randy Sandke leads a who’s who of Arbors Records alumni in a tribute to this legendary jazz record & festival producer. Also starring Anat Cohen, Wycliffe Gordon, Dick Hyman, Bucky Pizzarelli, Warren Vache, Joel Forbes, Rebecca Kilgore, Ed Metz, Rossano Sportiello, Harry Allen, John Allred, Rajiv Jayaweera and soprano sax legend Bob Wilber!
