Evan Christopher’s Clarinet Road
“Blues for Bechet”
Featured guests include Catherine Russell on vocals. Dan Barrett, flying in from San Francisco, who is considered the premier New Orleans-style trombonist. Guitar virtuosi Matt Munisteri & Doug Wamble, (The New Yorker magazine titled Wamble, “a one man compendium of avant-Americana”). Bassist Thaddeus Expose and stunning mistress of groove, LaFrae Sci, on drums. LaFrae has the distinction of being the first female drummer and musical director in Broadway or off-Broadway history.
“Evan Christopher is, in my estimation, not only the greatest clarinetist alive, but one of the greatest of all time.” Ahmet Ertegun, founder of Atlantic Records
Evan’s latest recording, “Finesse”, was in the Top Ten Jazz Albums of the Year and his liveshow in England was a #1 Pick, both chosen by Clive Davis in London’s Sunday Times.
Born into musical royalty, Catherine Russell is the daughter of bandleader Luis Russell and bassist/vocalist Carline Ray. Her debut album “Cat”, made critic Will Friedwald’s top 10 list: “She is a fresh and original voice. The most exciting debut album I’ve heard in a long time.” The dean of jazz writers, Nat Hentoff, wrote in The Wall Street Journal, “It’s a delight to hear the real thing in Catherine Russell.”
